Berlin Gay Pride - June 27, 2009

Today is Berlin's Gay Pride Parade. At the start (1:00pm, only half an hour late) there really weren't that many spectators, but 2 1/2 hours later, the crowd was massive.

It was great fun. I saw more old drag queen then ever before. There were almost 50 floats, and I expect the partying to continue the entire night. I'm afraid I'll miss that, I have a 7:00am flight to Geneva.

If you want to see additional Pride pictures, please email me.

Berlin - June 24-26, 2009

The three flights from Orlando to Berlin were long, but I got plenty of sleep and was able to enjoy my first day in Berlin. I spent the afternoon walking around. There really aren't that many old buildings, like in Paris or Rome. Much of the city was destroyed during WWII.

I had to buy a new camera, since I left the charger to my other new one at home.

On Thursday and Friday I took a bus tour of Berlin, getting on and off to see the sights.

The Jewish Museum was exceptional. It covered the German Jewish history for the past 2000 years. There was one exhibit and a special room focused on the Holocaust, but that was only a small part of the museum. A definite must for anyone visiting Berlin.

There isn't much left of the Berlin Wall but I did get a few photos. I have a piece of the wall, which my friend Chris Schwick gave me soon after the wall came down in 1989.

The booth at Checkpoint Charlie still stands, along with all the tourist shops.

As usual, I took many pictures of Berlin's ultra-modern train station.

The meals have been great. Looking forward to some wienerschnitzel tonight.

Tomorrow is the Berlin Gay Pride Parade. I hope the weather improves. It's been overcast the past few day.
