Eric and I were off to London in June to attend the wedding of Alex and Tamsin. Alex is the son of Norman and Ann Shuker who have been great friends for over 20 years. We arrived a few days early to see the sights of London.
Our hotel room wasn't ready when we arrived, so we wearily walked around Hyde Park until 11:00am. We arrived at 6:00am after an all night flight. After a short nap, we walked to Central London. We took a boat ride on the Thames from the London Eye to the Tower Bridge.
The weather was beautiful - the only day it rained was Saturday, the wedding day. We took hundreds of pictures of the flowers in bloom.
The second reason for the trip was for Eric to see the Musical - Lord of the Rings. Its not your typical musical - it was more of a Cirque du Soliel show - with fantastic costumes, music and scenery. The stage revolved in three circles and went up and down. I doubt they will ever bring this show to NYC.
On Friday we took the train to Elstree, checked into a nice country hotel and visited a local pub for lunch. Eric and I both took turns drawing beer from the tap. We were invited back for Saturday night, but we spent the entire day partying with the Shukers.
The wedding ceremony was held at the church across the street from the Shuker's modest castle. The reception was in their backyard in a massive tent - or marquis as were learned. The theme was champagne, and every table had their own label. I brought most of the corks home to add to our cork collection. We still need thousands to fill the container. Next time I visit England, I'll ask Norman how many bottles of champagne were consumed.
Here we see the newlyweds - Tamsin and Alex. I hope they enjoyed the wedding as much as we did.
Here I am playing Jenga. You remove one block at a time from the tower and place it on the top. The last player to stack a block without making it fall is the winner. I didn't win.
And here's the best dressed person on his way to the Ascot Races. Black is always fashionable.
We had a great time and I look forward to visiting with Norman and Ann at the end of September.
